Description

Jupiter and Saturn were separated by about 0.5 degrees on the night of December 17, 2020. The pair was joined by the waxing crescent Moon (14 % illuminated) in the sky at sundown. Quite a beautiful sight that I feel fortunate to have observed. I have about 45 minutes to observe the conjunction before the planets drop into the treeline and neigborhood houses, and only the last 20 minutes are so are approaching dark sky. The Great Conjunction is only 4 days away, hard to believe they will only be about 0.1 degrees apart on that night.

Imaged with 85mm/F1.4 Rokinon at F/2.8, IDAS LPS-D1 clip filter, and full spectrum modified Nikon D5300. Single exposure of 1/15 sec at ISO800.
